Bone Island Regatta
​Preliminary Notice of Race


1. RULES
    
For  All  Starts May  15 –  May   18  2019

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) (2013-2016), the WFPHRF Organization Class Rules and the National One-Design Rules.

1.2 WFPHRF Class Rules may be found at www.westfloridaphrf.org

1.3 The Organizing Authority is Bone Island Regatta.

2. ELIGIBILITY

2.1 Open to any single hulled, self-righting, enclosed cabin sailing boat that hold a current, valid, WFPHRF rating and to all offshore multi-hull yachts that have a current, valid WFPHRF rating.  All boats must meet the WFPHRF Category One (1) Safety, Crew and Equipment Requirements.

2.2 All boats shall be seaworthy and carry all safety equipment required by US Coast Guard.

2.3 Owner and/or skipper shall be a member of a yacht club, sailing club or sailing association affiliated with the US Sailing Association. The term “skipper” means the person, whether or the owner of the boat, who is designated on the entry form as “skipper”, who is in charge of the boat and will be responsible for its handling and safety, the conduct of its crew while ashore as a guest of any host yacht club, sailing association, sailing club or any participating commercial facilities, and shall be responsible for compliance with the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions.

2.4 All boats shall carry a workable VHF radio capable of receiving and transmitting on channels 16 and 72, and receiving weather broadcasts.

2.5 The Minimum crew, including skipper, shall be three (3) persons.

2.6 True Cruiser entrants intending to use a “cruising spinnaker” under the provisions of the WFPHRF Class Rules shall notify the race committee in writing of their intention.



3. ENTRIES AND FEES

3.1 Entries shall be made by completing the Official Entry form, accompanied by an exact copy of the boat’s valid WFPHRF rating Certificate along with the entry fee.

  3.2 The early entry fee for Tampa and Sarasota is One hundred Twenty five dollars   ($125.00)  to March 31, 2019.  Effective April 1, 2019, the entry fee is One hundred fifty dollars   ($150.00), until April 30, 2019.  Effective May 1, 2019 the entry fee is One hundred seventy five dollars ($175.00).

Each entry fee includes one Bone Island T-Shirt, your choice of size, and one Dinner ticket for the Awards Dinner, location to be determined.

Entry fees are refundable until April 15, 2019, and then they become non-refundable.
Deadline for entry is 5 p.m. May 12, 2019.
 THIS YEAR -  Everyone who enters by April 30, 2019 will have their boat’s name on the Tshirt!!

4. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

4.1 The applicable Sailing Instructions will be available at the Skippers Meetings.

5. REGISTRATION, CREW LIST, FLOAT PLAN, "SPOT", AND SKIPPERS MEEETING
5.1 Participants in the Sarasota or Tampa  to Key West competition may register on-line or via mail to BONE ISLAND REGATTA, 4737 Oak Run Dr., Sarasota, FL 34243.

5.2 The Skippers Meeting for the Sarasota and Tampa to Key West Race will be on May 14, 2019, Check in at 6:00p.m.  Skippers meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. 

5.3 An accurate and complete crew list shall be provided at or before the Skippers Meeting.

 5.4 A completed “Float Plan” must be provided in writing to the Organizing Authority at or before the Skippers Meeting.

        5.5 A Valid "WFPHRF Certificate" must be presented to the Organizing Authority at or before the Skippers meeting. All certificates must be valid and there will be no certificates printed at the Skippers Meetings.

5.6 All vessels are required to have a SPOT tracking device.  And be activated on our URL which will be provided closer to the race date.

6. CLASSES AND DIVISIONS
6.1 Minimum of one (1) boat makes a class.

6.2 Classes are: WFPHRF Spinnaker, WFPHRF Non-Spinnaker, WFPHRF Cruising, and WFPHRF Multi-hull as defined in the WFPHRF Class Rules and Fun Class. Further division of classes may be dictated by the number of entries received.



7. START

7.1 Sarasota - There will be one start on May 15, 2019, start time to be determined,
The Fun Class will start 10 minutes after the start of the racers. See sailing instructions for further details.

7.2 Tampa – The first Warning signal will be on May 15, 2019, time to be determined, see sailing   instructions for exact details.   

8. COURSES

8.1 The Sarasota to Key West Race shall begin West of the mouth of Big Pass in the vicinity of 27 15.60N, 82 34.50W. Leave all coastal government marks including Smith Shoal Light to port, thence to Key West Northwest Channel sea buoy “1” FL G 2.5sec bell, leaving it to port, then along the Northwest Channel to the finish line in the vicinity of the Key West Bight Channel as more fully described in the sailing instructions. Rated course distance is 169 nautical miles.


8.2 The Sarasota Fun Rally shall begin West of the mouth of Big Pass in the vicinity of 27 15.60N, 82 34.50W.
Start 10’ after the racing classes in Sarasota.
Leave all coastal government marks including Smith Shoal Light to port,. When you reach Smith Shoal 
Light house your finish line is 24 degrees 43.094' N / 81 degrees 55.380' W.
Record your finish time as you cross this and be sure to text it to Alice Petrat at 941-232-3635 as soon as you have service.
Then you may start your engine and continue on into Key West to enjoy the Bone Island Regatta events, and the fun Key West has to offer.



8.3 The Tampa to Key West Race shall begin in Tampa Bay, by Marker 70, fully described in Sailing Instructions.



9. SCORING
 
9.1  
All classes except fun class to finish in Key West harbor just off the Hyatt.  See Sailing instructions for more details.

9.2 Corrected times will be calculated using time on distance on the boats WFPHRF “OWC” rating.

10. TIME LIMITS

               10.1 To be determined



11. PRIZES

11.1 Trophies will be awarded based on the number of entries in each division as follows: Three entries, one trophy. Four entries, two trophies.  Five or more entries, three trophies.
Specialty prizes may also be given. First over the line trophy will be given to the first monohull   over the line for each start.
12. DOCKAGE
12.1 Sarasota: You may contact Marina Jack, or Sarasota Sailing Squadron.   There is dockage at
Sarasota Yacht Club, you may have to raft up, it is on a first come, first serve basis.

13. OTHER INFORMATION

13.1 Competitors compete in the regatta at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority, host clubs, sponsors, their associates and appointees will not accept any liability for material damage or personal  injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta.
