Preliminary Notice of Race
​May 13 - 16 2026



1.RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)
(2025-2028), the WFPHRF Organization Class Rules and the National One-Design Rules.
1.2 WFPHRF Class Rules may be found at www.westfloridaphrf.org
1.3 The Organizing Authority is Bone Island Regatta.

2. ELIGIBILITY

2.1 Open to any single hulled, self-righting, enclosed cabin sailing boat that hold a current, valid,
WFPHRF rating and to all offshore multi-hull yachts that have a current, valid WFPHRF
rating, with a minimum length of 28 ft. All boats must meet the WFPHRF Category One (1)
Safety, Crew and Equipment Requirements.
2.2 All boats shall be seaworthy and carry all safety equipment required by US Coast Guard.
2.3 Owner and/or skipper shall be a member of a yacht club, sailing club or sailing association
affiliated with the US Sailing Association. The term “skipper” means the person, whether or
the owner of the boat, who is designated on the entry form as “skipper”, who is in charge
of the boat and will be responsible for its handling and safety, the conduct of its crew while
ashore as a guest of any host yacht club, sailing association, sailing club or any participating
commercial facilities, and shall be responsible for compliance with the Notice of Race and
Sailing Instructions.
2.4 All boats shall carry a workable VHF radio capable of receiving and transmitting on channels
16 and 72, and receiving weather broadcasts.
2.5 The Minimum crew, including skipper, shall be two (2) persons.
2.6 True Cruiser entrants intending to use a “cruising spinnaker” under the provisions of the
WFPHRF Class Rules shall notify the race committee in writing of their intention, On or
before May 8, 2026. If no notification is received, the entered boat will be in the True
Cruising Class with no spinnaker, there will be no change to this after midnight May 8,
2026. There will be no adjustments at the skippers meeting. Also there will be no Class
change after this date and time.

3. ENTRIES AND FEES

3.1 Entries shall be made by completing the Official Entry form, accompanied by an exact
copy of the boat’s valid WFPHRF rating Certificate or ORC rating certificate along
with the entry fee.
3.2 The entry fee for both Sarasota and St Pete starts will be Two hundred dollars
($200.00) to April 11, 2026 this includes one t-shirt, your choice of size. Effective April
12, 2026, the entry fee is Two hundred twenty-five dollars ($225.00).
3.3 Entry fees are refundable until April 11, 2026, and then they become non-refundable.
Deadline for entry is 5 p.m. May 8, 2026.

3.5 Award tickets must be purchased by everyone who wishes to attend the awards, including the
skipper. The Award dinner is May 16, 2026, the awards dinner will be at “Salty Frogs” the dinner ticket
price is $40.00 per person, cash bar. These tickets may be purchased when you enter, or later on the
web site until May 8, 2026, or the last opportunity will be at the skippers meeting. They will not be
available in Key West.

4. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

4.1 The applicable Sailing Instructions will be available at the Skippers Meetings.

5. REGISTRATION, CREW LIST, FLOAT PLAN, "SPOT", AND SKIPPERS MEEETING

5.1 Participants in both the Sarasota to Key West or St. Pete to Key West competition
may register on-line or via mail to BONE ISLAND REGATTA, 4737 Oak Run Dr., FL

5.2 The Skippers Meeting for the Sarasota to Key West Race and St. Pete to Key West will
be at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron in Sarasota on May 11, 2026, Check in will begin at
1800 hours. A representative for each boat must be present at the Skippers Meeting.
5.3 An accurate and complete crew list shall be provided at or before the Skippers Meeting.
5.4 A completed “Float Plan” must be provided in writing to the Organizing Authority at or before the
Skippers Meeting.
A Valid "WFPHRF Certificate" or “ORC Certificate” must be presented to the Organizing Authority at or
before the Skippers meeting. All certificates must be valid and there will be no certificates printed at the
Skippers Meetings.
5.6 All vessels are required to use a SPOT tracking device or Garmin or Delorme for the duration of
the race and be activated on our URL. The skipper is required to provide all necessary tracking data
no later than midnight, May 1, 2026. This information should be provided to Hobart Collins cell
number 502-541-2421. We are working with the tracking co. to get the replay, will keep you updated

6. CLASSES AND DIVISIONS

6.1 Minimum of three (3) boats make a class.
6.2 Classes are: WFPHRF Spinnaker, WFPHRF Non-Spinnaker, WFPHRF True Cruising,
Racer/Cruiser and WFPHRF Multi-hull as defined in the WFPHRF Class Rules. There will
also be an ORC Spinnaker Class with one start in St. Pete

7. START

7.1 Sarasota – There will be one start on May 13, 2026 start time to be at 1200 hours. See
Sailing Instructions for further details. This start will actually be in Venice, just outside
The Venice Jetties.

7.2 St Pete - ”ORC Spinnaker” is the only class starting out of St. Pete. There will one start

on May 13, 2026 start time TBD. See Sailing Instructions for further details.

8. COURSES

8.1 The Sarasota to Key West Race shall begin West of the South Jetties. Leave all coastal
Government marks including Boaca Grande Sea Buoy and Smith Shoal Light to port,
Thence to Key West Northwest Channel sea buoy “1” FL G2.5 sec bell, leaving it to port,
Then along the Northwest Channel to the finish line in the vicinity of the Key West Bight
Channel as more fully described in the sailing instructions. Rated course distance is 158
Nautical miles.

8.2 The St Pete to Key West Race shall begin in the vicinity of St Pete pier. See Sailing

Instructions for further details.

9. SCORING

9.1 Corrected times will be calculated using time on distance on the boats WFPHRF “OWC’
Rating.
9.2 Corrected times will be calculated using time on time on the boats with “ORC” rating.

10. TIME LIMITS

10.1 DNF time for all boats is 1400 hours on May 15, 2026.

11. START

11.1 Sarasota - There will be one start on May 13, 2026 start time to be at 1200 hours.
See sailing instructions for further details. This start will actually be in Venice, just
outside the Venice Jetties.
11.2 St Pete – There will be one start on May 13, 2026 start time TBD. “ORC
Spinnaker” only class. There must be 5 boats entered to make this a class. See sailing
instructions for further details.

12. COURSES

12.1 The Sarasota to Key West Race shall begin West of the South Venice Jetties. Leave all
coastal government marks including Boca Grande Sea Buoy and Smith Shoal Light to port,
thence to Key West Northwest Channel sea buoy “1” FL G 2.5sec bell, leaving it to port, then
along the Northwest Channel to the finish line in the vicinity of the Key West Bight Channel
as more fully described in the sailing instructions. Rated course distance is 158 nautical
miles.
12.2 The St. Pete to Key West Race shall begin in the vicinity of St. Pete pier. See Sailing
Instructions for further details.

13. SCORING

13.1 Corrected times will be calculated using time on distance on the boats WFPHRF
“OWC” rating.
13.2 Corrected times will be calculated using time on time on the boats with “ORC” rating.

14. TIME LIMITS

10.1 DNF time is 1400 hours on May 15, 2026.

Paul Goodman is the PRO for the St. Pete start.

16. PRIZES

15.1 Trophies will be awarded at the awards dinner for each class. There will be a first overall
trophy awarded to The PHRF class boats.

17. DOCKAGE:

a. AT Venice Yacht Club and Crows Nest. As for fuel, the fuel docks are down at Sarasota Yacht
Club and Bird Key Yacht Club, however Marina Jack does have fuel and they now have a self
serv, 24/7 availability for fuel.
b. Key West: Early reservations are recommended. Conch Harbor Marina (305) 294-2933,
A&B Marina 305-294-2535, Key West Bight Marina (305) 809-3984, and
Galleon Marina 305-292-1292.

18. OTHER INFORMATION

a. Competitors compete in the regatta at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The
organizing authority, host clubs, sponsors, their associates and appointees will not accept
any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with
or prior to, during or after the regatta.
